Junk drop! I haven't had much time to draw lately between the job, gym and electric guitar (my new found hobbie! I own an ESP F50, and it is. AWESOME. ) But anyways, here's a couple sketches! I was waiting for the boyfriend to wake up (because I'm nice) so I gave myself something to do: an alphabet of animals that amuse me! I only got to C, but Duck was going to be next! Maybe I'll make it into a serious cleaned up project when I find some more time.

Hippo! Anonymous reader encouraged me post more art, so here it is! Sorry I haven't been posting much lately - I've been super busy with a new job, and I had to put another candle on my cake this month. So I'm officially old. Or at least mid-twentyish. Anyways, I'm combating mid twenty-something spread by hiring a personal trainer at the gym. Busy busy. But I promise that I'll post something once a month! Mutant Monday: Bears

As outlined in the previous post, this is my Monday entry for the Mutant Draw-Off between Lucas and I. Sorry Lucas, I know it's a half a day early, but you know I have to go to the dentist tomorrow.

The Bear: I tried to think what the most terrifying mutant bear would be like. And the answer was the Carebears. That, and how alarming their tongues are. And in honour of our mutual affinity for pie, I call this creepy mutant carebear "Sparkle Pie Bear". Because they all had stupid names like that. Mr. Lucas, this one is dedicated to you. Happy Birthday.

I promise, the other ones will be more twisted.

Draw-Off: Mutant Beasts

Earlier in the month, my ever-so-beloved friend Lucas and I decided to hold a draw-off - a fierce battle of talents to see who's brain is more twisted. A while ago we had both decided to draw mutant bunnies to update our neglected blogs with, and we've upped the anti this week with a similar challenge. We'll be posting one mutant animal a day for the next seven days as follows:

• MONDAY - Bear
• TUESDAY - Pig
• WEDNESDAY - Fish
• THURSDAY - Hippopotamus
• FRIDAY - Sloth
• SATURDAY - Raccoon
• And on SUNDAY participants will create a mash-up of two of the above animals.

Hah. How about that. It's February already! Been a little while since I've updated, but I'm starting to design a villian type charater, because I'm still unemployed and looking for work, and need something to animate in the mean time. For now, let's call him Ian. Meet Ian. He's a sleeze bag, and will ocassionally prance like a little girl when he's being particularly evil. Anyways it's just a quick scribble in ballpoint that I've mucked around with, but I hope to have more finished work soon.

P.s. I've discovered that there are few things in life more heart stopping than dropping your tablet/stylus. Except for maybe a child falling down stairs (boy did I cause my parents problems with that). Either way, there is a sharp intake of breath.

This is an awkward situation that actually happened to me a month or so ago. It was raining and I was sitting on a bus full of men, and I went to put the cover on my umbrella. I put it on in one smooth motion, and I swear that every eye was on me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or run screaming.

Gingerbread

I've been kinda busy with Christmas and other non-drawing projects. Example: Lucas and I did gingerbread part two yesterday, and using our limited icing colours, we created... well, I want to say art, but that might be going a bit far. They were delicious though! My favourites are Carniverous Christmas Tree, Aquagingerbreadman, Tightie-Whities man, and the unfortunately blurred Zombie/Monster gingerbread man. He was pretty awsome. Good luck finding them! It's like Where's Waldo!

I'm starting to draw a bit more, but I'm kinda rusty once again - my new years resolution will be to draw every day. Sadly, this does not mean that they will all be good, but hopefully I'll be able to post more often. More fun to com!

And thank goodness, because I've been making nothing but bad art lately! Scarves and mitties finally forced my hand, and I drew something good. I have a new sketch book that I was not-so-sure about, and as you can see it's brown paper. I think I'm going to have to pick up a white pencil or grease marker and see if I can work that to my advantage! Oh, and by the way - icing gingerbread men is a LOT harder than it looks. And as a result, they have been eaten or otherwise given away without a picture. They were tasty though.

Well, I'm back in action, and hopefully going to make weekly posts from now on! I don't think I need to tell you that getting teeth taken out of your face is painful, but wow. I did not expect to hate the universe for a week. Anyways, I'm healing up nicely now after getting my wisdom teeth out, and I have actually been busy doing art - but... if I posted it, it would spoil someone's christmas present. So you'll have to make due with my leftovers! I made "seafood surprise" (read:tomato sauce). It didn't kill me! I had my doubts about frozen seafood, but it was actually quite delicious! In honour of it, and how much I enjoyed the calamari - I give you... squid.

Stay tooned for the possibility of zombie gingerbread men. It may or may not happen, depending on how lazy I am this week, and if I can find a camera before they are eaten.

I finally got back to this background that I started OH so long ago - cleaned it up in flash, then colouring it in Photoshop for a change (not done yet!). Still some stuff to be worked on, but again, it's good to finally get back to background painting in a more serious way. I'm still not a big fan of making layouts - but I want to have a nice balance between my character work and background work. That way, maybe one day I'll finish something!

But I'm getting better about finishing things, right? There's more colour on my blog now!

Salvaged background! I did have to re-do some stuff, but I'm pretty happywith the way it turned out - again its the first layout i've done in a long, long time. So yes, I am easily pleased. I even went so far as to doing a night version! I might play around with some light texture, but maybe I'll just move on to my next project, whatever it may be.

First corrupt Flash file. Ever. I've been working in flash for a few years now, and today I was working on a background (sort of a little red riding hood thing) and disaster struck. So, RIP background! It was fun while it lasted! While I couldn't change anything (or copy and paste) without the program crashing, I did manage to export it, so here are the remains. Oh well. Next background will be twice as awesome. It's good to be doing this sort of work again - it's been at least a year since I've even attempted a layout. More to come, unless flash decides "no".

And you know, I'm proud of myself. I didn't even swear! If I were getting paid, it would have been a different story though.

Alright! I made it my mission to draw until my ass was numb today (portfolio's not going to make itself). I've been revisiting some of my old art, cleaning it up, and colouring it in.

Busy day of art today. So let me explain the distasteful art before the look of horror on your face freezes - and don't worry, I've posted something cute to balance it out. Now, I'm not generally a screaming fan of anything except cookies, but I encountered a band recently who's very name made me ooze disapproval and blush at first. But the were so saucy and irreverent about somethings, and clever and in awe of others, that there was no way I could not enjoy them. And their mascot was just shocking. But by gum was it fun to draw. And the band that makes me giggle is "Puscifer"... as in Lucifer...but with a...

Anyways! Beyond drawing buxom devil women, and a few more buxom nymph things which I might paint (I've been on a bit of a mythology kick today, and actually drew a lot more of those), I also cleaned up one of my adorable bunnies! You know - because the others are kinda crass. Sorry about that. But seriously. I'm a girl. I can get away with that, right? And you have to give me credit, because I left out the hypnotic spiral nipples. Don't you judge me!

I... ROCK. Okay so maybe it's temporary glory, but I'm just so pleased with myself right now!I finally got my flash character working, and I was having so much fun testing everything that I just ended up animating. Yes. And it was glorious. Its good to feel productive once in a while! this is just on an old half finished background, and I threw a couple of fill layers over top for mood. Sorry about the quality. I can animate, but tech stuff... Well, thats what the tech team is for!

Proof of progress! I'm going ahead and turning the bonnie wee mouse into a flash character. I've actually played around with a few facial expressions too, and almost have things working on that front. Just trouble with anchors points. And yes, I'm being indecisive about how I want the feet, so she has non yet. Anyways here's a still of what I've got so far. I'll probably end up adding more detail too, once I get things working properly but hey - it'll do for now!

Still alive! I gave up on doing work for a while because my computer was on a steady decline. SO. I got a new one finally! I'm playing around with some of my mouse characters in flash, trying to find a style that still suits them, but one you can animate without redrawing everything, all the time. Yeah. Wish me luck with that. Anyways I'm looking forward to animating my own characters, if I ever get things sorted out! I should start updating more frequently again. Time to get out of lazy mode! There's a new burlesque Life drawing session happening in Toronto, so I went there for the first one and tried it out. Pretty neat! I had a lot of fun using brush pen, and it was your basic life drawing session, but with costumes. So don't get any dirty ideas. Strictly professional.

I had a moment of wrath at Service Canada, so I had to angst on paper. Then I drew some more cute fuzzy mice. You know, just to balance it out. I might be going somewhere with this mouse thing - who knows! I particularly enjoy the disgruntled looking mouse peering out from behind her vapid looking sister. Who can't relate to that look!

*Note, as of August 27th, this is a new version because now I have a moniter with proper brightness and contrast! So i fixed this, because it looked like excrament on a fully functional screen. Hm.

This is completely unrelated to the project I was actually working on, but when I was playing around with the saturation and hue, at one point I hit on something I liked, so I took it and turned it into this! Ya know. Just for fun.

I might add that doing the graveyard watch in a storm sucks in a huge way. This picture probably sums up my grade 8 class trip, except that you can't actually see me spewing overboard. They made sure to tell me which way was down wind. God that was a glorious week. Then I had to get my land legs again.

Growing up, I had a huge fascination with the Brambly Hedge stories, which had some awesome illustrations of mice and their homes! Super cute. I guess I'm finally paying tribute to them. This is just a quick colour sketch of an entrance way.. you know. Just to prove I'm actually working on something. My painting and composition skills were going to the dogs, so I figured its time to get my groove on again. More to come! Go forced art work!

A Robin-like superhero in the style of Fairly Odd Parents. Note - all the hair cuts are the same in that show, even for the girls, plus a pony tail! Also, there are no shadows. Ha! I love flash!

Whee! I'm really starting to enjoy this whole digital painting thing! I had originally planned just to jot down a few colours on this thumbnail sketch, but its turning into a full blown project. I think i might actually fix the perspective and try to turn this one into a finished product. Its amazing what you can do when you're resting an injured foot.

Woo. Been kinda lazy lately! Must be the heat. Anyway here I am, back in action. I'm trying my hand at digital painting again - this time a little more complex than just fills. OoOooh. More pretty colours! I'll probably work on it some more, but this was more of a warmn up than anything else, just to get used to some speed painting and try to remember my photoshop skills... Look! Now its it two stages of unfinished!

Phew! I'm graduated!!! Took two weeks off, and now I'm working on the portfolio some more. I'm trying to work more to the style of existing shows right now so I can become more versatile. Also trying to work on posing a bit more because everything in my portfolio was from turnarounds! So here we are - slightly different than the norm! (Yea yea.. i know I'm timid at first.. I'm still warming up to the idea).

OOps! Another drive by updating. These characters are Francis and Isabelle. They're siblings. Francis tried to be tough by calling himself Frankie. But he's really just a sorfty for his bossy little sister, who he won't admit is really a smart cookie. And yes, theres a reason he wears old aviator goggles, which maybe he found in the attic.

Alright! Its portfolio time again!... every three weeks. *sigh*. I'm putting together the first draft of my throwaway protfolio right now, and also taking pictures of random things I find while I'm doing the paper shuffle. Hopefully more regular updates to come, because I'm trying to make some new (better?) art for portfolios. Enjoy!
